Analysis of opportunities for the new 22@

The specific modification of the General Metropolitan Plan for a more inclusive and sustainable 22@ is a regulatory update approved by Barcelona City Council that adapts the urban planning regulations for this sector of the Sant Martí district to strengthen social inclusion, urban sustainability and the quality of life of its residents.

Our contribution consisted of a detailed analysis of areas of opportunity and consolidated areas to identify and prioritise actions that promote equitable and sustainable urban transformation.

Analysis of areas of opportunity and existing structures

Our work has focused on a detailed urban analysis of 22@, with the aim of identifying the areas with the greatest capacity for transformation and those areas where established structures need to be preserved and reinforced. Based on an analysis of the urban morphology, existing uses, economic activity and social dynamics, opportunities have been identified to introduce new balances between growth, productive activity and everyday life, avoiding processes of fragmentation or replacement of the existing urban structure.

Intervention criteria for balanced transformation

Based on this analysis, specific intervention criteria have been defined, adapted to the diversity of situations in the territory and sensitive to the conditions of each area. The work highlights the role of consolidated areas as a key structure for a more inclusive evolution of 22@ and establishes a knowledge base that contributes to guiding more precise urban planning decisions, consistent with the context and aligned with sustainable and socially balanced urban transformation.
