The Special Plan for the Protection of the Architectural Heritage of Arenys de Mar is conceived as a tool that goes beyond a simple inventory of buildings. It begins by identifying the patterns that have shaped the municipality—from the historic center to the growth linked to maritime activity and the expansion processes of the 19th and 20th centuries—to understand heritage value not only in isolated elements, but in the continuity of streets, plots, and building typologies.
The document establishes graduated levels of protection and also incorporates everyday heritage, such as residential complexes and street alignments. At the same time, it defines criteria for new construction and renovations that ensure coherence with the surroundings, particularly in terms of scale, rhythm, and relationship with public space.
