STUDIO SPECIALIZED IN MODULAR ARCHITECTURE

What is modular architecture?

Modular architecture is a way of designing and constructing buildings based on the pre-fabrication of structural modules in industrialised environments.

Unlike traditional architecture, this system makes it possible to reduce timescales, improve quality control and optimise resources.

As experienced architects in this area, we work with CompactHabit's industrialised modules to offer technical, functional and sustainable results, without sacrificing architectural quality.

We work with the best manufacturers of modular building systems.

In the studio we collaborate with CompactHabit, a company specialising in high quality industrialised modular systems.

Its eMii® system (Industrialised Modular Integrated Building) allows the manufacture of three-dimensional reinforced concrete modules that leave the factory completely finished and ready for assembly on site.

This technology ensures precise execution, high structural robustness - with a storage capacity of more than seven storeys - and rigorous control of materials and quality.

The collaboration with CompactHabit allows us to integrate this solution with guarantees in buildings of different typologies, providing constructive efficiency, sustainability and technical reliability in each project.

Selected modular projects

Architecture studio based in Barcelona

From the design of single-family homes or multi-family buildings, to the refurbishment of existing buildings or the planning of urban spaces, we approach each project with technical rigour, sensitivity and a strong commitment to quality and sustainability.

How are spaces distributed in a modular industrialised building?

In a modular building, spaces are configured from a combination of modules, which can contain complete units such as bedrooms, bathrooms or toilets.

This structure allows a clear, flexible and scalable distribution, according to the needs of use.

The architects design each composition to guarantee functionality, comfort and integration with the environment, taking advantage of the possibilities of the modular system to adapt to different typologies: housing, educational centres, health buildings, among others.

Phases of the modular building system

Modular construction in a workshop

The modules are built entirely in a controlled industrial environment, following standardised manufacturing processes that guarantee quality and precision.

In this phase, the structure -with reinforced concrete slab and the rest of the structure in concrete, wood or metal-, the installations, the interior finishes and the incorporation of closures, carpentry and technical elements are carried out.

The process allows complete traceability of each component and a significant reduction in waste and scrap.

Transport and assembly

Once the modules have been manufactured in the workshop, they are transported to the final location using specialised transport.

The assembly is carried out in a very short time using cranes, fitting each unit precisely onto the previously prepared foundation.

This phase is quick and not very intrusive, which minimises the impact on the urban environment or existing activity.

Finishing and connections

Once the modules are in place, the connections between units, the resolution of joints and the final connections of the installations are carried out.

This phase is short and allows the building to be commissioned quickly.

The end result is a fully functional architectural ensemble, with the same features as a building constructed with traditional systems, but with the advantages of modular construction.

Advantages of modular architecture

Modular construction represents a natural evolution in the way contemporary architecture is understood.

Beyond construction technology, it brings a new way of managing projects, focusing on precision, agility and the ability to adapt to the real needs of users and the territory.

Reduction of construction times

The modular system allows drastic reductions in overall project timescales, but its real value lies in the reliability of the forecast times.

This precision facilitates planning, coordination with other agents and better overall project management, especially in environments where the schedule is a determining factor.

Design flexibility and customisation

Modular architecture does not impose a closed formal language. The system allows for solutions adapted to different urban or natural environments, and can respond to complex functional criteria.

This flexibility also translates into the possibility of considering extensions, changes of use or future reconfigurations with minimal structural impact.

Sustainability and energy efficiency

The modular process offers optimal conditions for incorporating passive solutions and active energy-saving systems from the initial design.

Reduced displacement, reduced on-site resource consumption and improved thermal performance of buildings contribute to reducing the ecological footprint of the whole life cycle.

Cost optimisation

Workshop fabrication allows for a much more efficient use of materials, with less waste and better quality control due to mass production.

This system directly reduces the cost per square metre compared to traditional construction.

In addition, the precise planning and standardisation of processes provides a high degree of budgetary clarity, which facilitates the economic management of the project and reduces the risk of deviations during execution.
